After the 1st January 2015 R-22 or HCFC will be banned from the use in the service or repair of all air-conditioning systems. R-22 or HCFC is commonly used in air conditioning and refrigeration.
R-22 was used alongside the highly ozone depleting (ODP) CFC’s, but it does have a relatively low ozone depletion potential. However, it is being phased out as even this lower ODP is no longer considered acceptable by the EU.

Start planning your HCFC phase out now
This will ensure you have time to consider the most appropriate options and will enable you to minimise the cost implications. It will also give you time to properly budget for any investments required.
You have three options to ensure you adhere to the new HCFC regulations, these are;
1. Replace the whole plant
2. Modify the plant to use new refrigerant
3. Use existing plant with recycled HCFCs
There are many things to consider before making your decision, for example you should consider the age of the unit, the current performance of the unit and also the levels of refrigerant in the system. These are just a few factors that can have an impact on your decision.
Don’t leave it too late and feel the pressure of a closing deadline, act now and give yourself plenty of time to carefully consider all your options.
